About Beauty of the Haunted House
In financial straits, a Hong Kong businessman takes an offer from a Japanese bank, on the condition that he sell his family mansion on Lantau Island. The tenant, his patriotic uncle, will only go in a coffin. The bank wields blackmail to scare the businessman but they're unaware that, in that house, there's something far more horrifying than their blackmail.
Directed by Ka Ka, Beauty of the Haunted House leans on a strong ensemble — Lee Yi-Ching, Chan Sing, Jack Suen Kwok-Ming — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about horror titles of 1998.
