Short film about three young men who have seen Howard Hawks' African adventure “Hatari” in a Munich movie theater and decide to go on safari themselves. As Africa is a little too far, they drive to a nearby trout pond in their rickety Volkswagen. But their excursion turns out to be a failure, so they return to the city to watch Hawks' masterpiece once again.
Directed by Klaus Lemke, Kleine Front leans on a strong ensemble — Werner Enke, Heinz Klopp, Horst Söhnlein — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1965.
