Exquisite Corpse

In a series of seemingly disjointed vignettes, including an extensive look into the lives of local transgender sex workers, “El Cadaver Exquisito” juxtaposes unscripted everyday rituals with staged dream sequences to provide social commentary on violence in El Salvador, especially against women.

Directed by Victor Ruano, Exquisite Corpse leans on a strong ensemble — Rossemberg Rivas, Malado Baldwin, Alexandra Palomo — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about fantasy titles of 2011.
