Wang Xiao Nan, a 24-year-old Chinese performer of Korean folk dance, is shaken when her mentor and grandmother, Chen Xiu Zhen, gives her the thumbs down during the semi-final of a dance competition, despite the praise of the judges. Directed by Xirzat Yahup, Kim Hyan Choi, Meet in Pyongyang leans on a strong ensemble — Liu Dong, Tao Yuling — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
