The Taming of the Shrew

This version concentrates on the contest between Petruchio and Katerina, as it should. The Biance subplot is used only to set up the Shrew story. When the subplot is resolved, its intrusion comes almost as a surprise, but I suppose the director felt he had to tie up lose ends.

Directed by Edwin J. Collins, The Taming of the Shrew leans on a strong ensemble — Dacia Deane, Lauderdale Maitland — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1923.
