The film is about a fortune-teller played by Nessy Grant, who prefers to drive her clients to sexual climaxes rather than predict their future through her crystal ball. A catfight with Marie-Claude Viollet also ends up in hot lesbian action, with M-C playing her usual role as supporting character, such as in Annonces spéciales pour couples vicieux (also directed by Alain Payet, with almost the same cast), Les Délices de l'adultère and Couple cherche esclave sexuel, when she appears in the second part of the film to participate in orgy scenes. Part of the final orgy has also been used in Sophie aime les sucettes.
Directed by Alain Payet, Julie par-devant par-derrière leans on a strong ensemble — Christiane Grandit, Hervé Amalou, Lucie Doll — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1978.
