
Tax collector Lorenzo Charlton comes to the Larkins' farm to ask why Pop Larkins has never filed an income tax return. Charlton has to stay for a day to try to estimate the income from the farm, but it isn't easy to calculate when the farmer has such a lovely daughter.
Directed by George Marshall, The Mating Game leans on a strong ensemble — Debbie Reynolds, Tony Randall, Paul Douglas — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1959.
