About Vengeance of the West
Anita Morell arrives by stagecoach in a small California town to find her father murdered and his property being stolen by two unscrupulous townsmen. She receives help from a sympathetic lawman and from a masked rider known as "the Black Shadow" whose whip-scarred back is evidence of his own grudge against the townsmen.
Directed by Lambert Hillyer, Vengeance of the West leans on a strong ensemble — Bill Elliott, Tex Ritter, Frank Mitchell — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about western titles of 1942.
