The problem is that no one has the money needed to get to Gothenburg, and no one wants the other bands to reach the destination. Some of the most popular Swedish bands of the 1960s figures in the movie: Lee Kings, Spotnicks, Ola & The Janglers, Jerry Williams & The Violents, Shanes, Sten & Stanley and Hounds.
Directed by Hasse Wallman, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Gothenburg leans on a strong ensemble — Eva Rydberg, Sven-Axel Carlsson, Tjadden Hällström — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1967.
