About The Beauty Parlor
Divorced Maria and married Ofelia work as ladies' masters in a Moscow hairdressing salon. Ofelia often complains to her friend about her philandering husband. Maria has no one to complain about - she lives alone and is not bored. To reconcile Ophelia and her husband, Maria often visits Ivan at the zoo, where he works as a zookeeper, and gradually becomes attached to him. The sedate and positive Maria has much more in common with Ivan than the capricious and flighty Ophelia.
Directed by Aleksandr Pankratov-Chyornyy, The Beauty Parlor leans on a strong ensemble — Tatyana Ivanova, Georgi Burkov, Tatyana Vasileva — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about romance titles of 1986.
