About Van Gogh
After leaving the asylum, Vincent van Gogh settles in the home of Doctor Gachet, where he keeps painting amidst the torments of his failing mental health. He begins an affair with his host’s daughter, however, she soon realizes that he doesn’t love her and that his heart beats only for art.
Directed by Maurice Pialat, Van Gogh leans on a strong ensemble — Jacques Dutronc, Alexandra London, Bernard Le Coq — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1991.
