The Countess Cosel is based on the true story of the beautiful Anna Constantia of Brockdorff, a German noblewoman who became a mistress of Augustus the Strong, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony in 1704.
Directed by Jerzy Antczak, Countess Cosel leans on a strong ensemble — Jadwiga Barańska, Mariusz Dmochowski, Stanisław Jasiukiewicz — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about history titles of 1968.
