Abathumbi

The Boss is the leader of a gang who plan to kidnap a pastor's nephew as part of a sinister plan in order to make himself rich by extracting a heavy ransom from the lad's wealthy parents. The threatened boy must use his ingenuity and that of his young friends in order to outwit the criminals and thwart their plans.

Directed by Tonie van der Merwe, Abathumbi leans on a strong ensemble — Innocent Gumede, Jabulani Luthuli, Victor Nhleko — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1985.
