The story starts in Romania in the last years of the Ceaucescu regime. The main character of the film is Petru, a ten-year-old Romanian boy. His world is one of action and dreams but, at the same time, presents an authentic vista of contemporary Central Europe.
Directed by Barna Kabay, Európa messze van leans on a strong ensemble — Levente Tamási, Géza Kaszás, Denisa Dér — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1995.
