About We Were so Young
Sashko and Yulia have been friends since childhood. Sashko grew up in a communal apartment surrounded by post-war poverty. Yulia fell seriously ill during the war. Sashko goes to study in the big city, where he gains his first experiences of independent living in a student dormitory and on a construction site. Later, he meets Yulia again.
Directed by Mykhailo Belikov, We Were so Young leans on a strong ensemble — Taras Denysenko, Elena Shkurpelo, Nina Sharolapova — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about romance titles of 1985.
