Meine Schwester Tilli

Hannes, 22, and his girlfriend Tanja have to realize that there are things in their relationship that have an unfavourable effect on their togetherness; now they try to find out why their love should not last. Tilli, Hannes' 16-year-old sister, and her boyfriend Robert, on the other hand, just look sadly at the rest of their remaining pocket money and wish they could get rid of their money worries. But for Tilli's family with their seven children, who live in a district town in the GDR, it's not that easy. However, the extended family's life is not disrupted by problems, rather it is strengthened and the family's cohesion is intact.

Directed by Richard Engel, Meine Schwester Tilli leans on a strong ensemble — Henry Hübchen, Petra Kelling, Erika Müller-Fürstenau — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1972.
