Once upon a time, there was a royal windmill where the queen and her son, the young King Sebastian, lived. Sebastian was long past the age of marriage, but he was much more interested in his collection of curiosities than in girls and ruling. One day, a simple girl caught the prince's eye at the market. She alone will become queen, Sebastian thought to himself. Little did he know that his chosen one, the kind and diligent Mariana, had a lazy and envious sister, Adriana, and that the two girls, born at the same hour, were indistinguishable from one another.

Directed by Svatava Simonová, Pohádka z větrného mlýna leans on a strong ensemble — Andrea Černá, Jiří Schwarz, Věra Galatíková — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about family titles of 1996.
