Eighteen-year-old Matilde lives with her grandmother and her mother Laura, a woman struggling with debt and failures. Completely disconnected from reality and attached to her online avatar, Matilde has found her own way to make money: stripping on webcam. One day, Laura is forced to reveal her debts to her daughter, who plots an ideal solution to their troubles, unexpectedly involving Ernesto, a wealthy bourgeois obsessed with sex and possessions.

Directed by Berardo Carboni, Youtopia leans on a strong ensemble — Matilda De Angelis, Donatella Finocchiaro, Alessandro Haber — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2018.
