The movie follows two castaway children who grow up with one of their fathers, but must fend for themselves after they are captured and deified by natives. Adapted from Henry De Vere Stacpoole's novel The Blue Lagoon, via the film of the same name, Pengantin Pantai Biru introduces several differences to the story.
Directed by Wim Umboh, The Bridegroom of Blue Beach leans on a strong ensemble — Meriam Bellina, Sandro Tobing, Abdi Wiyono — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1983.
