Beautiful Star

Meg decides to commit suicide to escape the marriage to which her father intends her. She is saved by Jean-Pierre, another candidate for suicide, and Léon, a tramp who was just trying to reason with him. The trio then becomes inseparable and organizes a new life based on friendship and freedom.

Directed by Jacques de Baroncelli, Beautiful Star leans on a strong ensemble — Michel Simon, Jean-Pierre Aumont, Meg Lemonnier — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1938.
