Murcia countryside, Spain, at the end of the 19th century. Pencho, a peasant, and Xavier, son of a powerful landowner, get into a bloody fight after arguing over the distribution of irrigation water. When Xavier is injured, Pencho is forced to flee from justice.
Directed by Marcel Gras, Max-Joly, The Gardens of Murcia leans on a strong ensemble — Juanita Montenegro, Geymond Vital, Hubert Prélier — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1936.
