Trying to marry off his sister Penelope so that he can finally marry his beloved, Odysseus accidentally gets involved with a gang. Meanwhile, his sister's beloved, who comes from America for her sake and knows her only through their correspondence, meets Odysseus dressed as a woman and mistakes him for his sister.
Directed by Hristos Kyriakopoulos, Penelope's Suitors leans on a strong ensemble — Stavros Paravas, Sotiris Moustakas, Sasa Kastoura — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1968.
