About Enter the Forbidden City
During the dates of celebrating the Emperor's 80th birthday, an opera troupe from southern China was invited to come to Beijing to perform for the Emperor. Afterwards, the opera troupe was granted to stay in Beijing and became what we had known as 'Peking Opera' today.
Directed by Hu Mei, Enter the Forbidden City leans on a strong ensemble — Fu Dalong, Ma Yili, Ma Jinghan — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about history titles of 2019.
