Featuring footage spanning from 1901 to 1985, this little-seen footage has been found from all across the UK. This programme allows an exploration into stories of migration, community and also the struggle against inequality, while also providing the opportunity to celebrate black British culture and life on screen. Directed by Menelik Shabazz, Sagar Mitchell, Imruh Bakari, James Kenyon, Britain on Film: Black Britain leans on a strong ensemble — Paul Robeson, Learie Constantine, Reg Harcourt — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about documentary titles of 2017.
