About Kamilla and the Thief
Orphan Kamilla moves in with her rich uncle who lives in Kristiansand, Norway in the early 1900s. Her uncle’s wife, however, does not approve of Kamilla and wants to send her to a boarding school in Denmark. Her uncle, instead, decides to send her to his sister who lives in the countryside. On her way there, she meets Sebastian, who is a good-hearted thief who wants to turn his life around. An adaptation from a Norwegian children's novel by Kari Vinje.
Directed by Grete Salomonsen Hynnekleiv, Kamilla and the Thief leans on a strong ensemble — Veronika Flåt, Dennis Storhøi, Agnete G. Haaland — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1988.
