The film is about a rich man who falls in love with a poor woman. Cüneyt, the son of a millionaire businessman, is about to get engaged. To test his fiancée and her friends, he tells everyone that he has gone bankrupt. As a result, his fiancée breaks up with him. His friends also do not attend the engagement ceremony. As a result, Cüneyt decides to distance himself from his social circle and spend some time in the outskirts of the city. With the help of a worker who is employed by him, he begins living in Kumkapı. Cüneyt will fall in love there and decide to marry.
Directed by Sırrı Gültekin, Fakir Bir Kız Sevdim leans on a strong ensemble — Cüneyt Arkın, Gönül Yazar, Münir Özkul — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1966.
