She wants an IUD and a baby: a mix-up at the gynecologist's appointment is the beginning of a nightmare come true for Lola, a young woman in her late forties: she is the frontwoman of a Berlin rock band and has not the slightest interest in a serious relationship, let alone a baby. But then, at Dr. Mertens' gynaecological practice, the fertilized egg of her daughter Marie, with whom she has had no contact for years, is accidentally implanted.

Directed by Florian Knittel, Es bleibt in der Familie leans on a strong ensemble — Andrea Sawatzki, Jennifer Ulrich, Oliver Wnuk — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
