A young shepherd in an Andean community hears the ominous omen of the community's chaman. Soon after, a Shining Path unit arrives in the community and assassinates the authorities. The Shining Path assign Jeremías some duties that he will not fulfill. When the army arrives, he has to flee. He leaves for Lima in search of his godfather, works several jobs, but has to flee constantly pursued by the police. Little by little he realizes that the omen is fulfilled and that Lima is a cursed city.
Directed by Nilo Pereira del Mar, Ni con Dios ni con El Diablo leans on a strong ensemble — Marino León de la Torre, Patricia Cabrera, Diana Escobar — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1990.
