Civil War. Red Army commander Yakov Spiridonov falls into the White Guard rear, escapes and finds shelter in one of the ruined villages with a young teacher. He does not relax, but organizes a rebel detachment and before the arrival of the Red Army performs an operational combat mission to hold the bridge.

Directed by Andrei Ladynin, Edgar Khodzhikyan, Winner leans on a strong ensemble — Aleksandr Zbruev, Georgi Taratorkin, Valentina Kareva — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about war titles of 1976.
