An incident occurs at an ordinary Turkish funeral. While throwing soil onto the deceased with a shovel, one of the mourners accidentally drops his phone into the grave. When he realizes he has dropped his phone, he stops the burial and asks to retrieve it. However, one of the mourners says that the grave cannot be reopened due to religious beliefs. With the imam who is conducting the funeral also getting involved, an unusual argument ensues.
Directed by Özgür Cem Aksoy, Giderayak leans on a strong ensemble — Murat Sağlam, Mustafa Erkan, Cengiz Samsun — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2018.
