About Samanishvili's Stepmother
A poor nobleman, Platon Samanishvili, has a big family. One day, his long-time widowed father, Bekina, tells him that he'd like to remarry. Platon has a problem now: if his father gets a child, he has to share his already small land property.
Directed by Zakaria Berishvili, Kote Mardjanishvili, Samanishvili's Stepmother leans on a strong ensemble — Akaki Vasadze, Mikheil Lortkipanidze, Tsetsilia Tsutsunava — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1926.
