About Suci Sang Primadona
Suci’s performance is exaggerated when she is with Oom Kapten, Mr. Dawud and Mr. Condro. The three men are her clients and she is mistress to them. But Suci, the prima donna of the people’s theatre (a srimulat troupe, a traditional theatre style from East Java), who performs in a squalid village area, has her own dreams.
Directed by Arifin C. Noer, Suci Sang Primadona leans on a strong ensemble — Rano Karno, Joice Erna, Alam Surawidjaja — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1977.
