About The Nude Woman
Saeko, a 27-year-old housewife without children, loves reading books and often goes to a nearby library. She accidentally comes across a dirty magazine filled with pictures of naked women. Among the photos, she finds one of a young woman who seems different than all the others and, out of curiosity, decides to write to her. Through the correspondences, Saeko comes to understand herself.
Directed by Akihiko Shiota, The Nude Woman leans on a strong ensemble — Reiko Hayama, Masashi Miki, Rena Sugimoto — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1996.
