About The Rise of Hero
The young man Huang Feihong wants to make a living in Guangzhou. With the help of Zhou Shisan and Lu Yibai, he is finally allowed to take an exam in Guangzhou, and he may be able to study abroad. But after he gets there, he finds the intrigue on the exam in Guangzhou set by the conservatives in the court led by Eunuch Hai who wants to abort the Studying Abroad Campaign launched by the Westernization Movement.
Directed by Zhang Zhe, The Rise of Hero leans on a strong ensemble — Wu Yijia, Yang Xiaomi, Cheng Zuo — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about action titles of 2019.
