
Shyama (Suraiya) gets a job as a servant so she can pay for her younger sister, Kiran's (Geeta Bali) education in the city. Kiran, though, is in love with a rogue, Ajit (Pran).
Directed by D.D. Kashyap, Bari Behen leans on a strong ensemble — Suraiya, Ulhas, Geeta Bali — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1949.
