About Champion's Son
Shurik Kleymenov, the son of a famous ski coach, goes with his father to competitions. At first arrogant, Shurik, watching the difficulty of the path to sports victories, eventually begins to understand that sport can become a worthy goal for him in life. Meanwhile, coach Kleymenov finds himself in a difficult situation: the downhill track he chose did not live up to his assumptions and one of the participants is injured.
Directed by Albert Osipov, Champion's Son leans on a strong ensemble — Anatoli Mateshko, Viktor Perevalov, Roman Khomyatov — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1979.
