Shibata and Tategami are Japanese journalists hiding out in the Lost City Night Club to elude the triads. Shibata falls in love with the club's hottest singer, Cora, but is hampered by his disguise - as a woman. She in turn loves Tachikami, who is gay, and desires Shibata.
Directed by Takayoshi Watanabe, Hong Kong Night Club leans on a strong ensemble — Shingo Katori, Goro Kishitani, Richard Ng Yiu-Hon — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1997.
