For some reason, Ryohei, an elementary school student, becomes interested in garbage trucks and starts helping an uncle who works there. Ryohei's classmates and family members, who had initially ridiculed him, are impressed by Ryohei's single-minded demeanor and begin to help him without realizing it.
Directed by Hideyoshi Kin, The Earth leans on a strong ensemble — Masahiro Sakaguchi, Yoichi Honda, Kiyoko Asahina — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1991.
