About Hedelmätön puu
Erkki, a journalist, suffers from epilepsy and agrees to be sterilized in order to marry his fiancée Helena. Unhappy about his infertility, Erkki begins to drink more and more, and eventually Helena returns to Helsinki to continue her studies. There she meets Associate Professor Sysikorpi, who falls hopelessly in love with her.
Directed by Hannu Leminen, Hedelmätön puu leans on a strong ensemble — Helena Kara, Rauli Tuomi, Joel Rinne — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1947.
