About Anu ja Mikko
Before her death, Anu's mother promises her daughter to the wealthy Junu of Ukonmäki. Anu loves the carpenter Mikko, who, upon hearing of Junu's engagement, leaves for Helsinki. However, Mikko misses Anu and his homeland, to which he returns with modern ideas of factory work and efficiency.
Directed by Orvo Saarikivi, Anu ja Mikko leans on a strong ensemble — Henny Valjus, Santeri Karilo, Kerttu Salmi — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1940.
