About True Story of a Woman in Soapland: Tear!
Sex worker Hasekura (Shinobu Wakana) is visited by old classmate and current lanky art teacher Kikuta (Kazuo Ôtani) when his wife ditches him over his constant philandering. Soon he's juggling his new fondness for soapy sex with his mistress and his now-pregnant wife, a situation that becomes more complicated by the minute as marital obligations and unrestrained kinks collide.
Directed by Takashi Kodama, True Story of a Woman in Soapland: Tear! leans on a strong ensemble — Shinobu Wakana, Miki Higuchi, Midori Yūzaki — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about romance titles of 1987.
