About A State of Madness
A film noir evocative Caribbean drama set in 1953 in the Dominican Republic during the cruel dictatorship of Leonidas Trujillo. After a group of mental patients escape from Nigua Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Antonio Zaglul is appointed new director of the establishment with the purpose of calming down the negative press the lack of control of the place was generating. It will be difficult to tell if madness lives inside or outside the hospital's walls.
Directed by Leticia Tonos, A State of Madness leans on a strong ensemble — Luis Jose German, Jane Santos, Pavel Marcano — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2020.
