About Grotto of the Gorgons
An electronic variety show featuring poetry, theatrics, dance, songs, and a plot concerning the cultivation of literary innocence and the preservation of Rondo Hatton's memory (a horror actor in 1940s B movies). A dense work made even denser by staged incompetence. Made with my students at the San Francisco Art Institute.
Directed by George Kuchar, Grotto of the Gorgons leans on a strong ensemble — Mary Pacios, Pia Mogollón, Dan Carbone — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1995.
