The Alice of the modern generation

The young orphan Aliki is entrusted by her grandfather to the care of a wealthy childless couple. Several years later, Aliki falls in love with the waiter at a nightclub, who is also a medical student. Her social environment stands in the way of their love, but the intervention of her grandfather, who sells cigarettes at the same club, leads to a happy ending.

Directed by Giorgos Tsakiris, The Alice of the modern generation leans on a strong ensemble — Anna Iasonidou, Thanasis Mylonas, Lavrentis Dianellos — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1973.
