About Prince Walnut
Animated adaptation of the tale by Ferenc Móra in which the old king, on the advice of his long-serving shepherd, arranges an archery competition to decide which of his three sons will inherit the crown. The competitors have to hit the centre of a copper penny on which there is the image of the old king.
Directed by Attila Dargay, Prince Walnut leans on a strong ensemble — Károly Mécs, János Rajz, László Bánhidi — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about animation titles of 1963.
