Ra'fat marries Souad against his family's wishes and they go to live in Syria. When Ra'fat dies, Souad works to support her daughter Sahar who wants to marry her neighbor Walid. Souad falls ill but hides it from her daughter whom she sends to live with her rich aunt, Dalwat, in Cairo.
Directed by Henry Barakat, Valley of Memories leans on a strong ensemble — Shadia, Laila Fawzy, Mahmoud Abdel Aziz — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1978.
