Chinatown

Set entirely at night, it has a perfectly cast St. Croix as a guilt- ridden ex-cop, caught up in a new case to prove his lover Asia Carrera did not murder her husband, the dastardly Randy West. Morgan wrote the script as well as taking the role of West's business partner (importing Greek statues and antiques), but the plot twists he wrote are too obvious and detract from the otherwise engrossing murder mystery.

Directed by Jim Enright, Chinatown leans on a strong ensemble — Asia Carrera, Steven St. Croix, Randy West — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1994.
