While spending the day at his grandfather’s, Jordan’s eye catches a fragment of green cotton trapped in between the doors of a closet. When he opens the closet, he is mesmerized by a beautiful green dress. He puts on the dress. He feels empowered by this new look, but his grandpa comes in only to crush his moment of happiness. He lectures Jordan that dresses are only for girls and goes to take it off of him, but in the midst of the altercation, he tears the fabric.
Directed by Ethan Ardalan, The Dress leans on a strong ensemble — Aias Dalman, Jack Rigg, Nina Wilder — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about family titles of 2020.
