Amethyst

The young wife dies instantly and absurdly in his arms. After death, it seems to him everywhere, leading him into the pool of death. To unwind, he goes to the dead of season at the sea-to the place where they first made love, succumbing to an instant flash of attraction. Dreams, memories and fantasies become his curse – he lives in the past. But one day his dreams and visions come true. A woman who looks like his wife will appear on the embankment, so that he will forever part with the image of his deceased wife.

Directed by Darya Shumakova, Amethyst leans on a strong ensemble — Mikhail Trukhin, Ekaterina Novikova, Semyon Serzin — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2012.
