About How I Was Independent
Based on the short story of the same name by Yuri Sotnik. The first-grader Lyosha, when he was left home alone, decided to spend this first independent day of his life calmly and sensibly. But the neighborhood kids disrupted Leshya's plans. They used his apartment to rehearse an amateur performance.
Directed by Vasily Zhuravlyov, How I Was Independent leans on a strong ensemble — Aleksand Mashovets, Vladimir Semenov, Anatoliy Kuznetsov — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1963.
